In June 1994 I was asked, as Secretary of the KSGA, to attend the prize giving of the Annual Cecil Leitch Five Club Competition at Rochester and Cobham Park Golf Club to receive a cheque for our funds. This generous donation has continued to the present day.
The KSGA hold three championships each year and despite no financial support from the KCC, these are self financing through entry and affiliation fees. What the KCPFA donation allows us to do is to give financial support to those who qualify for the Regional and National Championships. This year one boy and three girls qualified for the English School’s National Championship at John O’Gaunt Golf Club in Bedfordshire. Mark Collins of Homewood School,Tenterden finished a very commendable 9th and qualified to play against Scottish Schools in September.
Since 1994, Steven Tiley,Tom Sherreard and Luke Jennings have won the Boy’s Championship at the South of England School’s Championship and Claire Aitkin has won the Girls’ Championship.
On the 19th July 2010 five boys and three girls took part in the English Schools’ Under 16 Championship at Delamere Forest Golf Club in Cheshire and it is due to the contribution of the KCPFA that we are able to help these young golfers to further their golfing education and take part in National Championships.
